At The Archbishop’s School, Religious Studies is a very important part of the curriculum. It is a subject which allows pupils to explore other Religions, as well as exploring themselves and their opinions. All teachers encourage discussion, pupils asking questions, and will often ask the question WHY??????
In Key Stage 3, we consider a variety of topics including key aspects of key Christian beliefs such as the Trinity and Incarnation; Ethical issues such as protecting the environment and supporting the poor; Philosophical issues such as why there is suffering and the purpose of life; Teachings of different religions and the impact that has on the lives of believers.
Each year, pupils complete home-learning projects; each project asks pupils to consider a different ethical topic, and applying the skills of expressing their own opinion; why people would disagree with them; and the views of Christianity and one other religion.
In Key Stage 4, all pupils study the AQA Religious Studies Short course GCSE. This course looks at the beliefs and teachings of Christianity and Islam as well as the themes of Family and relationships; and Peace and conflict.
Pupils can also choose to take the full course GCSE for which they study AQA Religious Studies A. For this course they study beliefs, teachings and practices for Christianity and Islam. They also consider the themes of Religion and Life; Revelation and Existence of God; Family and relationships; and Peace and Conflict.
We offer Religious Studies as an A Level subject. We currently study the AQA syllabus. The course consists of Philosophy of Religion, Ethics, Christianity and the dialogue between the three.
