THE ARCHBISHOP’S SCHOOL Newsletter
Summer 2010

Dear Parents
As another academic year draws to a close we would like to thank all of the staff and students of The Archbishop’s School for their hard work over the year and for the continued support of all parents and friends of the school, and we wish you all a restful summer holiday.

School Uniform
From September, Year 7 girls will no longer wear a school tie, a change to the current uniform rules.  Instead they will wear a plain white blouse with revere collar and a school jumper.  A blazer remains optional.  There is no change to the boys uniform.  Girls in years 8 – 11 may choose to wear the new uniform (what is effectively our summer uniform) or they may continue to wear a tie.

School Governor
We will have a vacancy for a parent Governor in the new academic year.  If you are interested in knowing a little more about the school governance, please contact the Headteacher for more information.

Duck Race
Many thanks to all those who supported the duck race recently. I am please to say that £200 was raised. Mr. Kennett was particularly pleased as his duck came first in the photo finish, though he nearly got a ducking! Other winners were: David Williams, Lauren Corke 7 Peter and Miss Cowell from the school office.

Sixth Form Race
A tremendous total of over £5,000 was raised by our sixth Form in their annual race which saw them solving problems and challenges in London and other cities across the country. This year the money will go to our international charity the Kajokeji Education Trust who many of you will recognise a charity founded here at Archbishops to support schools and communities in Kenya and Southern Sudan.

Friends of the Archbishop’s School
As parents of children at the school you are automatically members of the Friends Association. The support given by the Association has been invaluable in allowing us to purchase those added extras which do so much to enhance the opportunities that the children have here at school. Recently we have purchased a mini bus, are in the process of developing the outdoor Science classroom.
You are warmly invited to attend the next Friends meeting  at 7.30pm on Wednesday 15th September 2010 where there will be wine and nibbles and the opportunity to get a little more involved.

School Lunch
Polite reminder to all those who are regular diners, or any who would like to become a regular diner and save money on the cost of a school meal, you need to contact Mrs Hart in the school office for a renewal form.  The regular diner’s scheme has to be renewed each year, if you wish to continue to take advantage of this discount.  Forms should be returned to Mrs Hart by Friday 16th July 2010.

Car Parking
Parents are reminded for health and safety reasons that they should not bring their cars up to the top car park unless there is an emergency or by prior arrangement.  When dropping your child off or picking your child up at the end of the day please would you do so outside the school and well away form the school gates and bus parking bays

We hope you all have an enjoyable summer and we look forward to welcoming year 7 and Sixth Form students on
Friday 3rd September and all students on Monday 6th September.
