Term 1 Unit 9A; PERSONAL PLACES/ PUBLIC SPACES.

 

About the unit.

 

During this unit,pupils will explore public art in their own and others locality. They will research different ways in which ideas; beliefs and values are represented in the local area and across time, place and culture.

Pupils will explore ways of representing their ideas and collaborate with others to make a mural or 3D form for a specific location. They may work individually to create a piece that represents an environment or a specific chosen theme.



Term 2 Unit 9B; WAYS OF SEEING.

 


About the unit.

 

During this unit, pupils will understand the reasons why the artist explores subjects not only of the immediate environment but also of the mind. They will consider how the Cubists changed the viewpoint of their environment and how the Surrealists explored sub- conscious visions that changed the way the audience and the artist viewed the world.

Pupils will explore both concepts using a variety of techniques and processes, working towards a final piece in 2 or 3 dimensions based on either one or a combination of both ideas. It will be based on representing contemporary familiar objects in unusual ways as well as using the natural quality of media and technique to determine how a piece of work will be developed. It will be a unit not only for direct observation but manipulation of the formal elements, using the imagination to convey information beyond reality.


Term 3 Unit 9C: ICONS AND IDENTITIES.

 

About the unit.

During this unit, pupils will explore the way people are viewed by the artist and ask themselves if this is how the sitter would like to be portrayed in real life. They will develop their ideas by looking at the icon across time, place and culture in a variety of genres. They will use the knowledge gained from *****ysis of work to explore feelings, and perceptions using the formal elements, materials and processes to manipulate imagery and reach a desired outcome.

Pupils will explore themselves also in this way to encourage them to gain a more thorough understanding of who they are, what place they have or aspire to have in society and where they are going in life. It may also provide an opportunity for pupils to explore issues, which they feel strongly about.
