The Art G.C.S.E. Examination is composed of two parts.
Paper 1. This is the Coursework and is made up of two units of work that follow the themes ‘People and Identity’ and ‘The Environment’.
Paper 2. This is the externally set examination that you will be given in the second half of the final Spring Term, allowing eight weeks preparation before the final ten hour timed piece.
Each Unit must include a sketch book / work journal that contains in depth research and the development of your ideas, including reference to the work of others, showing understanding of meaning, contexts and the ability to make skilled judgements, using an appropriate visual/verbal form. The work journal is a vital tool in supporting and stimulating the artistic process and should show exploration and discovery.
Presentation and spelling are very important.
Each Unit should include coverage of the assessment objectives below:
AO1 Visual research, direct observation drawings, photographs etc. and other images that are to do with the chosen theme with comments that include explanations such as how they help and what particular parts of the visual language they address.
AO2 Personal copies and other images of artists’ work that relate to your ideas with written *****ysis of the work that considers questions such as Who? When? Where? How? Why? making reference to the visual language.
AO3 Experiments that explore, develop, modify and refine your idea through the visual language.
AO4 References to other artists’ work showing clear connections and use of things you have learnt.
