Yr 8 Art Course







Term 1 Unit 8A; MOVEMENT.

 

About the unit.

Pupils explore the figure in movement, collecting sources, which communicate ideas about the theme including Italian Futurism, early photography and modern digital images. (Including cartoons)

They will explore a variety of approaches to image making, making connections with Abstract Expressionism and artists across time, place and culture. Pupils will learn how to represent ideas and values using painting techniques and sculpture.

 

Expectations.

Some pupils will have made further progress and will experiment with making moving images that critically assess and present a personal response in appropriate ways including a digital sketchbook. They will all comment on their own and others work which has influential practice.


Term 2 Unit 8B; TRANSFORMATION.


About the unit.

 

In this unit, pupils explore and collect from their immediate environment including natural and made objects as a starting point for their work. They will explore all the formal elements by selecting and abstracting qualities of the objects of still life as a basis for development from design to realisation in 2 and 3 dimensions.

Pupils will learn about viewpoints and how the impact of an image can change when the formal elements are manipulated. They will study artists who have looked at objects and environments from different times places and cultures by *****yzing genres, styles and traditions, using this to explore and develop their personal working practice and visual vocabulary.

 

At the end of this unit.

 

Most pupils will; *****yse and comment on their own and others ideas and approaches to manipulating the formal elements to change purpose, meaning and context. Compare work of artists across time, place and culture using this knowledge to develop personal working practice and response.

Make drawings and images in 2 and 3 dimensions using a variety of media processes and techniques with control and from a variety of viewpoints.

Experiment with ways of representing familiar objects.

Develop ideas using a sketchbook or other form.

Combine and manipulate techniques and processes.

Adapt and refine work to realise own ideas and intentions.

Use art specific vocab to annotate ideas and approaches.

 

Some pupils will have made less progress and will; Comment on similarities and differences between own and others work.

Represent familiar objects by experimenting with a range of techniques and processes with hesitant control.

Adapt and improve work in a basic way and with some understanding to reach an outcome.

 

Some pupils will have progressed further and will; Critically assess work across time, place and culture *****yzing codes and conventions.

Experiment with a variety of media processes to interpret the formal elements in 2 and 3 dimensions with fluent control.

Explain in depth how others have influenced their personal working practice and development.

Show an understanding of meaning, purpose and concept.

Use art specific vocabulary with fluency.



Term 3 Unit 8C; ILLUSIONS.

 

About the unit.

In this unit, pupils will explore the nature of illusion in relation to the rendering of spatial effects in 2 and 3 dimensions. They *****yze the interiors and exteriors of spaces exploring how this can be changed using illusion in a variety of forms.

Pupils will *****yze examples of work from different times, places and cultures considering how ideas and cultural values are communicated through imagery.

 

Expectations.

Some pupils will experiment with the use of colour and the natural qualities of media in space to create the illusion of depth and critically assess the effects on an environment within an image. Colour psychology/ therapy.

Some pupils will develop and extend ideas using lighting, shadow within perspective to enhance the illusion of depth.
